The Carving Manipulator has been developed at the Swiss Light Source/Paul-Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, driven by the demand to combine an ultra-precise 6-axis positioning of the sample with ultralow temperatures and short cooling down times. The result is one of the best manipulators in the world for ARPES application. The unrivaled mechanical precision is realied by a true 6-axis goniometer, with the sample surface always beeing the center of all movements and rotations. The lowest temperatures range between 10 - 15 K, depending on the LHe flux and the experimental conditions of the system. But most important is, that this base temperature is reached after a very short time (< 60 min for a complete cooling down) avoiding unintended sample contamination. The Carving is available for stub holders and SH2/12 sample plates.
