X-Ray Source Suitable for Measeruments in High Ambient Pressure

The XR 50 NAP is a high intensity twin anode X-ray source optimized for XPS experiments in near ambient pressure. The anode is made of silver to avoid any CuLα breakthrough. The XR 50 NAP differs from the standard XR 50 X-ray source in two ways: the copper cap on the source head has a different design and the source is isolated from the chamber by a surrounding metal sheath. A thin silicon nitride window mounted on the end of the x-ray allows the transmission of X-rays while providing a physical barrier between the source interior and the high pressure in the chamber. The source needs to be differentially pumped either via a series of integral direct pumping orifices or via a DN38CF bypass differential pumping port with the direct pumping orifice sealed by a cylindrical sleeve. In addition to the anode the anode housing is very efficiently water-cooled in order to reduce the damage of the sample by thermal effects during operation. Even during longterm operation the sample temperature is not increased by more than 5 °C.
